Non-Academic networking

Our PhD students can be trained in non-academic institutions with which UniTO - either the PhD Program and/or the involved Departments of UniTo - have already signed agreements, such as:

PhD students interested in archaeology can take part in archaeological activities in several countries in Italy, as well as abroad (Iraq, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Egypt).
Geologist can work in geoparks, such as Magma Geopark, and Sesia Val Grande Geopark.
Agreements with CNR Institutes allow PhD students to work in laboratories where they can conduct analyses and research.

The inter-sectoral skills of Tech4Culture PhD students have been fruitfully exploited in participating to secondments periods during the H2020-MSCA-COFUND project Tech4Culture, and period organized within the European funded project H2020-MSCA-RISE Be-Archaeo, an archaeological project devoted to the excavation of a mound tomb in Japan, Okayama prefecture, the Tobiotsuka kofun. A fully trans-disciplinary methodology has been tested, with a simultaneous participation of archaeologists and a hard sciences and information science team in all research steps, both in excavation field and in scientific laboratories. Eight T4C PhD Students have been involved in differing activities of Be-Archaeo: analysis of material composition of finds excavated from Tobiotsuka kofun, micro-biological investigation of soils, X-Ray acquisition and 3D-digital rendering of finds, data elaborations for Be-Archaeo database. Beside scientific work, all PhD students have actively participated to Be-Archaeo second Summer school, held in Okayama University in 27-29 September 2022.

PhD Students take part to field trips organised by the members of the scientific board of T4C, such as the Field Trip “Nature, Culture and World Heritage”to Varallo (Sacri Monti UNESCO WH site) in the Sesia Val Grande UNESCO GLOBAL Geopark (Summer 2021). These trips give the opportunity to strengthen the relation among the PhD Candidates.
